I was pleased to learn that the Modesto City Council took the $600,000.00 transfer of funds to City Attorney Susana Alcala Wood off of the consent agenda at their meeting last night. The City Council seemed to be trying to hide this large transfer of funds from the public. Using the consent agenda to avoid public knowledge and comment on such a large money transfer is not what the people of Modesto deserve. I am pleased that the proposal is now going to be sent to the city's finance committee before returning to the Council next month for a vote. We need to have more open and honest government in Modesto. The details of where this money is going to be spent needs to be disclosed to the public. It seems as though the actions of our elected officials, and Janice Keating in particular, have cost the taxpayers a huge amount of money. Saving the elected officials public criticism is not an adequate reason to attempt to hide an expenditure of $600,000.00. This is the public's tax dollars, and the public rightfully should know the details of why it must be spent, and who was responsible.

I just got this article that shows how Modesto is transferring $600,000.00 to the the city attorney's office for litigation against the city. They are hiding the details by putting this item on the consent agenda. Barbara Keating is much too expensive of an item for a County Supervisor's job.

SUPERIOR CULTURE
A Greek and an Italian were sitting down one day debating who had the superior culture. The Greek says, "We have the Parthenon." The Italian says, "We have the Coliseum."
