Second Request. Mayor, City Manager and Council, et al, I heard on the radio this morning that the Water Rate Workshop has been scheduled for Feb 28th, at 4:00 PM, somewhere on the 2nd floor of 1010 10th Street. As you know, I have requested that this workshop be held in Chambers, and televised so all the people of Modesto have a chance to hear the discussion. My reasoning is that the truth should be made public. I am curious as to why you have chosen to hide the meeting in a small meeting room, which will be filled with City officials? In fact, only 3 Council members would be allowed to attend, according to the Brown Act. Thus, please let me make the following requests: 1. Hold the meeting in a room that will allow for members of the public to attend and participate in the discussion. 2. Public input should not be limited. If you intend to stifle public input, then the only limitation should be the total time taken by Staff should be allowed to the public. The Public should have the last word, not Staff. 3. A complete copy of Staff’s presentation must be made available to the public at least 3 full days prior to the meeting. 4. Televise the meeting. If you are afraid to do that, then video tape it and provide members of the public copies. 5. Invite the media; the BEE, Radio and TV personalities should be present to hear what really goes on. 6. Publish the fact that the meeting will be held in the BEE, and in press releases to local Radio and TV stations. Invite the public. After all, it is their money you are spending. I respectfully request this be done. Dave
