Oh, Dan, you can’t be serious. About the only way I can defend your assertions in today’s BEE is to say that you have only recently joined the BEE. First, let me be clear that most of us who criticize the BEE, criticize the EDITORS, not the REPORTERS. (Emphasis added to emphasize the point.) If you are not aware of the BEE’s history of editorial bias, let me tell you in one sentence. “The BEE’s editors have been in bed with the governments of Modesto and Stanislaus County for many decades.” Now, did you hear me say “liberal”, or “Democrat”, or any other political word? No, I said “Governments”. The BEE has covered up huge violations of the public trust that successive governments have perpetrated on the locals. (The tire fire, the Vogel Purchase, illegal water and sewer fund transfers, banking violations by Supervisors, and improper practices by the MID for the short list). The BEE leadership has worked hand-in-glove with local bureaucrats and elected officials to screw the general population. Just one example, Lynn Dickerson simply would not allow criticism of Ray Simon or Jack Crist. I personally have been in meetings where she protected Crist. Several senior editors and managers of the BEE have, of have had, close relatives who are/were senior government employees. The truth is, if you are not aware of it, the BEE protects the city and county governments at the expense of the people. I could take your comments point by point and criticize but I won’t. Well, except that A) “Facts” do not necessarily lead to “Truth”. An example is, “It is hot outside. Therefore, human disregard for the environment has created an irreversible, diabolic, and catastrophic climate change which will kill us all.” Besides, the BEE’s editorials rarely deal with facts, just opinions based on political bias. B) The “fact” that you are not registered as a Democrat…or Republican…does not mean you are not one. Another “fact” is, both W. Bush and Arnie are registered “Republicans”. (I am a registered Libertarian.) Neither W nor Arnie are Republicans in my mind; certainly not in the Reagan tradition. C) “Ad hominem attacks” cannot be made against “…networks and newspapers…” Moreover, just because one person criticizes another, does not mean that the statements presented are not factual, or truthful. Some of the most famous personal attacks are absolutely true. To be kind, I do not know what you really do at the BEE. My experience is that most BEE reporters do a pretty good job of reporting news. But how many Democrats, as opposed to Republicans, do the Editors endorse? And, when the rare Republican is endorsed, they are the Country Clubbers and “Old Modesto” who hobnob with the Editors. Bernie Goldberg described both you and I very concisely. We really believe we are not biased. We really believe that we are pure. We insist that we are truth tellers. And, we both have our deeply entrenched bias. The immortal words of Dave Thomas, often used on his radio show fits; “I think the fellow protests WAAAAAYYYYY too much!” Thank you, Dave
