FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE KMPH-AM 840 ANNOUNCES DEBUT OF “THE MORNING MAYOR,” HOSTED BY FORMER MODESTO MAYOR CARMEN SABATINO Talk Show Airs 8:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. Weekdays Modesto, California (May 8, 2007) - - A press conference at Mediterranean Market & Grill is scheduled May 9 at 11:00 a.m. announcing the May 10 debut of former Modesto Mayor Carmen Sabatino's new talk show, "The Morning Mayor," on KMPH-AM 840. The program will air live each weekday from 8:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. “The Morning Mayor” offers Modesto and Stanislaus County residents the unique opportunity to engage in dialogue on issues facing the community. Sabatino’s guests will include local community leaders and insiders, who will take calls from listeners. Jim Pappas, Vice President and General Manager of KMPH-AM 840, said, "As a former teacher and mayor, Carmen Sabatino is uniquely positioned to educate, inform, and entertain Modesto area listeners with daily insight into local government." Sabatino said, “Today, thanks to the fearless commitment of KMPH-AM 840, the people of our community will exercise freedom of speech and a hope for open government. “The Morning Mayor” radio talk show on KMPH-AM 840 will allow our listeners to share information we all need to know.” Kevin Barrett, Program Director of KMPH, offered, “The Morning Mayor” program provides an alternative public forum for the people of Modesto and KMPH-AM 840 listeners. We are thrilled to have Carmen Sabatino on board.” Known for his dogged determination, Sabatino ran for mayor of Modesto four times and eventually won election, serving as the city’s chief executive from 1999-2003. He has spent most of his life in the Modesto area, serving as a high school educator for three decades and as a small business owner for nearly four decades. About KMPH-AM 840 KMPH-AM 840 signed on the air in July 2006. It took the place of KTRB-AM 860, which served Modesto and the Valley for over 70 years and was relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area earlier this year. KMPH-AM 840 serves a large portion of the Valley, south to Fresno and north to Stockton. KMPH-AM 840 features a unique blend of American classics from Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Ray Charles, as well as modern standards from Norah Jones, Diana Krall, Michael Bublé, and Brian Setzer. It is the first station in the Valley to adopt a modern standards format.
