I think all of the voters in Modesto and the county need to donate to a fund to hire a GIANT NEED A CLEAN SWEEP SWEEPER to sweep the garbage out of the city council chambers and bored of supe’s bored room. Just like a street sweeper gathers trash from the gutters and deposits it in the appropriate location, the dump. The voters can show those who have their own self- centered interests at heart, rather then the best interests of citizens they swore to serve, that we will not provide an endless supply of tax dollars for them to squander and misappropriate. The citizens of Oakdale did not want to regress, and elect someone whose past performance parrots some of the nefarious, egotistical, nose thumbing and sometimes clandestine, acts, decisions, policies and “idiot-syncrasies”, (Webster’s says “characteristic peculiarity” how true is that definition) of certain, most, oh heck, ALL of the current Modesto council members; and Oakdale elected Farrell Pierson, as the voice of reason and with a skeleton free closet. As Dave Thomas pointed out on his post on 6-28-07, the egregious, callous, uncaring, insensitive and blatant utter disregard the “council” exhibited for the citizens of Modesto in making those autonomous decisions, without the input of the electorate, borders, no, it exceeds misfeasance of office. Webster’s says misfeasance is “the performance of a lawful action in an illegal or improper manner”. Maybe we the electorate, should look up the Webster’s definition of “recall” and put it to good use. It really made my day when I read in the bee that Dave Lopez has announced his intention to once again become a candidate for a city council seat. I had the distinct pleasure to meet and speak with Dave the last time he ran. He brought me a yard sign I requested, and in speaking with him, found him to be a sincere, caring gentleman, who will bring the first breath of honesty, integrity, candor and openness to the council that it is so sorely lacking and has been for way too long. I will once again request a lawn sign to show my support for this breath of fresh air and for any other honest candidate that is not in the hip pocket of developer sharks or other special interest sharks. Had I more time and better health, it would be my pleasure to run with Dave on a platform of reform of bad government. I spent my career helping and protecting citizens and in the latter years, being an advocate for good people facing adversity. It is time to have candidates who will make the citizens of Modesto be proud to say that we have a city government that is trying to bring our city out of the mire of being rated one of the least desirable places to live, to one that citizens can be proud of. But first, we have to get that Giant Sweeper in high gear and take out the trash. On my last post, I mentioned the county attorney representing them was a real gentleman and a credit to the legal profession for his honesty and attitude. During the negotiations, he was pleasant, business like, professional and worked very well with my attorney. As an example of his character, I will relate the following anecdotal event. At the conclusion of the negotiations and prior to leaving the hearing room, I was standing with my fiancée speaking with my attorney. The county attorney, Edward Burroughs was speaking with other county representatives at the other table. Mr. Burroughs approached the three of us and he looked at me and said, “Warren, can I shake your hand?” I was somewhat taken aback with his request, but because I have always had the attitude to be friendly with everyone, of course had the pleasure of shaking his hand. Mr. Burroughs then went on to state the following to us. “I have spent many hours investigating this case and spoke to very many people. While speaking to all of those people, I did not find one person that had anything bad to say about you. I have never seen something like that. If I could to my office and have just 50% of my staff have nothing bad to say about me, I would be very happy. How did you do that?” I told him that I have always tried to treat everyone I come in contact with, the way I want to be treated and try to help them anyway I can. We then shook hands again and exited the building. Mr. Burroughs showed that he is not just an attorney but a human being also. He is to be commended. I certainly hope that Mr. Burroughs does not face any censure because of his humanity. My next post will speak to “who stole the Gregori High School money??????” after I have done some research. In the meantime Modesto, lets get some honest deserving people back in government. Thank you Topcop
