Bee and Modesto City Council play “Hide the $200,000”

From today’s Modesto Bee     Delays, detours for week ahead

Eleventh Street between H and I streets will be closed this week while it is being paved.

How do the editors of the Bee know about this road work?  It hasn’t been approved by the city council yet.  In fact, they have already begun work on the street before tomorrow nights vote.

Attached is the Agenda Report of July 5, 2007 which is part of tomorrow nights July 24^th Agenda.

The Agenda merely says “Monthly Budget Adjustment Report – July 2007”

If you want to know what’s going on, you will have to turn to page 2 of the report.

Repave 11^th and 12^th Street   Money is being transferred from the Professional Service account to the City Construction Forces.

Notice that the work is being done without a bid or a contract.  That would certainly draw too much attention.

Budget adjustments of this type are required to be adopted by City Council resolution
