Interesting article in the Modesto Bee this morning concerning the lack of people willing to run for local office. The Bee touched on a reason that I think has scared away potential candidates. One reason the Bee thought might be the cause is that "No one dares or bothers to take on a strong incumbent." I think it might go a little deeper than that. Political insiders in Modesto saw what the political machine can do to people who try to take down their power structure. They saw the political machine try to destroy Carmen Sabatino, in order to get him out of office. Carmen was a threat to their corrupt security, and they simply did not care if it was all a crock of lies. I really do not know what it is going to take to straighten this mess out. Fresno had the FBI step in, and some of the incumbents actually went to jail. Is that what it is going to take to fix Modesto?
