This is a message I sent to the city council, and the BEE. You may want to consider writing or calling your representative on the council to tell them what you think. All their e-mail addresses have their first initial, last name then @modestogov.com Thus, Brad Hawn’s address is

Oh, one more thing. You might mention the city’s investment portfolio which contains over $280,000,000 dollars. Thanks, Dave Good afternoon. Once again, the fine minds of the city council are wandering off into the fog. It seems that our mayor and Ms. Olsen are committed to guaranteeing the bureaucrats their salaries, paying consultants, while destroying our police and firefighting forces. Why do we have a city government? Is it to provide basic services like POLICE AND FIRE PROTECTION, good roads, safe parks and uncongested streets? OR, do you think like they do, that the basic function of a city government is to pay bloated salaries to as many people as possible? In today’s BEE, it is reported that even the police chief has promised to use any extra money on OVERTIME PAY, which is the highest rate of pay in the department. For every 2 hours of overtime, we could pay the basic salary of a cop for 3 hours. Why then, is overtime the highest goal of the police department? These 2 elected people are acting like the parents, who, instead of buying their starving baby food, are stashing away money for its college education! I cannot imagine how any rational person can PLAN to increase their petty cash fund, while refusing to pay the rent or utility bills. And if you think this criticism is too harsh, think about what you would do when forced to choose between providing food and shelter to your family, OR increasing your savings account. Would you let your family starve? I ask you one more time, “What is the function of government?” My guess is that Ridenour and Olsen would say, “Protect the bureaucrats.” I hope that the rest of the council thinks more clearly. Dave
