Dear friends, please look at the back page in Sunday’s BEE. The history of the Modesto city council is told in one succinct report entitled “General Fund”. If you “do the math”, the story regarding the last 5 years of fiscal stupidity rolls out before your amazed eyes. Money spent = $559 Million Money collected = $548 Million Money budgeted = $536 Million According to the BEE, the last 5 councils have spent $23 MILLION DOLLARS more than they budgeted, and $11 MILLION dollars more than they received in revenues. You have heard me say, and read my messages, that told you Modesto is seriously MISMANAGED. You also know I have repeatedly said the council(s) have never exercised any real OVERSIGHT. Well, tell me I am wrong! Oversight means that we require accurate budgets. But our council does not. It is readily apparent that the finance director feeds the council baloney. Oversight means we do not spend more than we bring in. Our councils have consistently over spent, and the current budget is $17% HIGHER than last year. In fact, the budgeted amounts have grown by 35% in the last 5 years!!!! (Never mind those budgets mean nothing. Again, it is readily apparent that our council(s) simply do not do the math.) I believe it is time for the Taxpayers to take back the fiscal management of our City. WE MUST DEMAND FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY! We must demand that adequate public safety be provided, that our transportation requirements are met, and that lousy finance performance is punished. You know my e-mail address.
