The City of Vallejo is scheduled to meet in a closed session on February 26, 2008. They will be attempting to head off a financial crisis that could lead to the filing of a Chapter 9, Federal Bankruptcy Petition. Consecutive years of financial mismanagement has positioned the City to run out of money in its general fund by late March or April. At that time, all city employees would be sent home. In anticipation of this general fund shortfall, 20 police and fire employees took out retirement papers creating a new demand for $4 million dollars in accrued vacation and sick time. The outlook is poor for our neighbor to the north. Is Modesto Next?
