The proposal by our Mayor to demolish 7 Modesto City Pools is simply wrong. The citizens of Modesto spent their hard earned tax dollars to build these pools over the years. I look at these proposed demolitions as unnecessary. At tonights Modesto City Council meeting, it was disclosed that it will cost $10,000.00 per pool for this demolition. Why couldn't these pools be filled with gravel, with a sump pump in the bottom to pump out rain water. This would cost far less than $10,000.00, and would not destroy public assets that have already been paid for. When times get better, we can scoop out the gravel, and have a functional pool that everyone can enjoy. My proposal would eliminate the monthly chemical and maintenance costs associated with these pools, and preserve them for future use.            Administrator

THE ACTING CITY MANAGER FORMERLY THE PARKS DIRECTOR STATED LAST YEAR (2007)DURING THE FIRST POOL CLOSESURES THAT THOSE PEOPLE IN THOSE NEIGHBORHOODS COULD USE SURRONDING NEIGHBORS POOLS, CUZ THERE WERE SEVERAL IN THE NEIGHORHOOD.
