I just got this from Dave Thomas. It makes me sick how corrupt and out of control our Modesto City Council has become.Good afternoon. If you read the CONSENT item, below, you will find yet another Modesto city council giveaway. At the same meeting they voted to cut millions of dollars in critical city services, they gave away HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS in salaries and benefits to dozens of “executives”. The short story here is, the council’s negotiations with the new city manager violated the pay levels authorized by law. So, what did they do? They snuck in a huge increase in managerial pay scales, AND gave EVERYBODY a HIGHER AUTO ALLOWANCE. The pay ranges for the City Manager AND ALL “Executive Managers” has been raised. The car allowance for the City Manager AND ALL EXECUTIVES HAS BEEN INCREASED. Did you see that in the BEE? No, and the reason is that they did it in a secret vote, agreed to it behind closed doors, and that undoubtedly violated the Brown Act, as well as OUR POCKETBOOKS. We just gave the Mayor and council a massive pay raise. That was supposed to guarantee better, more ACCOUNTABLE city government. BALONEY! This council is grossly out of control, and you and I will pay for their folly. As ever, Dave REMOVED FROM CONSENT 12. Consider amending the Salary Range for City Manager and amending the Vehicle Allowance Policy. • Resolution amending Exhibit “I” of Resolution No. 2007-384 to revise the Class Range Table for Executive Management to amend the salary range for City Manager from salary range 1433 ($12,815 - $16,019/mo.) to range 1436 ($13,801 - $17,251/mo) recommended. • Resolution amending Exhibit “J” of Resolution No. 2007-384 to revise the Salary Schedule for Executive Management to add salary ranges 1436 to 1441 recommended. • Resolution authorizing Charter Officers’ Vehicle Allowances in the amount of $400 to $500 per month, Executives’ Vehicle Allowances in the amount of $400 per month, Deputy Directors’ Vehicle Allowances in the amount of $300 per month and City Manager discretion to grant Vehicle Allowances in the amount of $100 - $200 per month to Designated Management positions and rescinding Resolution Nos. 92-348, 92-349, 94-398, 97-605, and 2001-271 recommended.
