MAY THE MODESTO BEE REST IN PEACE

I was saddened to read about the offer by McClatchy to offer buyouts to all full time employees of the Modesto Bee. What we are seeing here is the death of our local newspaper as we know it. We will now get a watered down generic newspaper being produced in Sacramento. But then again, the Modesto Bee died a long time ago. It died when it started creating the news, rather than reporting the news. It died when it valued the advertising revenue of certain Real Estate companies over their responsibility to print the truth. It died when it began propping up incompetent corrupt officials in our city and county government. It died when it valued it’s own financial interests over the interests of the people of Modesto and Stanislaus County.

We all have to read the Modesto Bee daily. It is necessary in order to see if any more of our dear friends have passed away. It is necessary in order to keep up with local stories, taken with a grain of salt. A long time ago, we could count on good solid advice from the Editorial page, but now we get indoctrinated with the policies that prop up their hand chosen bunch of corrupt elected officials, and the special interests that pull their strings.

The rest of the news is available in abundance on the Internet for free. Even advertising is better accomplished over the Internet. Yes it is sad that the Modesto Bee is passing away, but the terminal illness began a long time ago, when the Bee leadership decided to sell it’s soul. Tux
