TOMORROW: LEGAL PROBLEMS FOR MEASURE K
WELCOME TO THE SABATINO REPORT
October 3, 2006
CITIES LOSE $200,000 GUARANTEED ALLOCATION
MODESTO LOSES OVER $10 MILLION A YEAR
___________________________________________________________
One of Measure K’s nasty little secrets is that only 9.8% of the total funds generated by this tax are scheduled to go to “Local Streets”.
The individual City’s are allocated money from the tax according to their population. When you do the math, the following results are realized:
City Annual Fund Allocation
Hughson $ 40,000
Waterford 53,300
Newman 60,000
Patterson 106,000
Oakdale 116,700
Riverbank 133,300
Ceres 256,700
Turlock 443,300
Stanislaus County 756,700
Modesto 1,373,300
Do you think this allocation of funds will even scratch the surface of the needed road maintenance, pothole fixing or resurfacing? Follow the money, the rich get the money and we pay the sales tax!
TOM VAN GRONINGEN FACILITATED TRANSPORTATION
TAX PROPOSED IN 2002 BY FORMER MAYOR SABATINO
_____________________________________________________________
Dear Tom,
You were paid over $500 per month to act as a facilitator to develop a ballot measure for a one-half per cent increase in the sales tax. That committee consisted of the nine Mayors and City Managers, two members of the Board of Supervisors, CEO Reagan Wilson, and Modesto Bee publisher Lynn Dickerson.
It is now time to publish your work. The ballot measure that the Bee insists on keeping secret.
As you know, one of the provisions in that ballot measure provided a base allocation of at least $200,000 for each city. Modesto was to receive over
$11 million per year.
After reviewing the table above I urge you to do the right thing and make the ballot measure we developed in 2002 public.
Carmen

Answer to yesterday’s question:
Stanislaus County spends $195,412 of taxpayer dollars advertising in the Modesto Bee.
Today’s question:
How much does the City of Modesto spend with the Modesto Bee?
